DJ Cuppy Debuts As An Artist With Green Light Featuring Tekno

DJ Cuppy is by now a familiar name across the international music scene having successfully gone around the world DJ’ing at places like the MTV MAMA awards in South Africa, Davido’s Orange Culture launch in London, SXSW in Texas and most recently taking main stage at Roundhouse, London.

Cuppy has successfully released unofficial remixes for international acts such as Major Lazer and Ed Sheeran, 2017 sees Cuppy release her very own productions and working with some of the biggest names from across Afrobeats. Earlier this year she teamed up with Mr Eazi on his Accra To Lagos mixtape.

Most recently, the international DJ/Producer (now artist), in collaboration with Afrobeats Superstar – Tekno releases Green Light. The first official single of DJ Cuppy hears her lend her smooth voice on the bouncy beat while Tekno serenades with his protracted delivery. While it’s easy to tag this Cuppy’s record, it’s evident she is not yet comfortable as an artist as she only offers a couple of lines that can’t frankly can’t be tagged a verse. It’s early on however, it may be a good idea to begin looking at songwriters to work with.

With this release, it has become apparent that Tekno possesses the Midas touch. In the video, the artistry and showmanship of Tekno seems to outweigh that of our sultry-look-dishing Cuppy who radiates confidence and comfortability as though she had been doing this for forever. Directed by Sesan, the transition between frames, camera quality, affable narrative and admirable dance skills of both artists make Cuppy’s first project rather interesting. Towards the end of the video, we get a sneak peek into the bejewelled life of Cuppy. With conflicting emotions, I look forward to more work from Cuppy.
