For a generation of artists, DRBLasGidi are the inspirations and the trailblazers. Initially garnering a following while in schools in England, the group was one of the first to return to Nigeria and successfully navigate their way into the mainstream on the backs of singles like Toyin, Amebo and more. Seeing them do it made it with a niche audience made it seem attainable for many artists who have risen in the past couple of years. Interestingly enough, the trio never put out an album in the 10 years they navigated the road. They instead opted to release individual projects and so their joint album has been long overdue. In 2018, they announced they had begun working on it and shared Pioneer’s first single, the Odunsi assisted Necessary.
Since then, they have put the finishing touches on the project, sharing singles like Shomo featuring Olamide, Based On and most recently Softly along the way. To begin May, they share the full project armed with features from Santi, Lady Donli, Maison 2500, WANI, Tems, and Prettyboy DO. Listen below.
The album art, created by Nigerian visual artist Anedu Edozien, is entitled ‘Midnight Friends’ and portrays the community, style, culture, cool kids, creativity, and rebelliousness of Lagos culture.
