Nigerian rappers are often criticized for their evolution into singers, most infamously by M.I in his 2018 single, You Rappers Should Fix Up Your Life. In defence, many rappers have pointed out the lack of love for rap purists as their reason for switching up. One of them is Dremo.
In an interview with Ebonylife, Dremo touched on the subject: “I will describe myself as a rapper who dey sing song [sic]… if you are doing music for the passion alone… you are deceiving yourself.” The rapper also talked on the global demands for Afrobeat and his desired international collaborations.
