Dremo Speaks His Truth On Echoo Room’s The Link Up

Echoo Room hosts a web show called The Link Up where it has in-depth conversations with artists, DJs, and other music industry key players with its latest episode featuring songwriter, singer, and record producer, Aboriomoh Femi Raymond, more commonly known as  Dremo. 

On the show, the Monaco crooner recounts his pre-limelight days in Ibadan, coming to Lagos, getting signed by Davido, and staying in David’s house for a year before moving to his own apartment. He also cites how different celebrities and DJs that come to Davido’s house told him that he had to sing.

He talks about being naive and abandoning rap for a while. He mentions that the songs he sang on usually grow faster, but when he drops songs like Monaco, they don’t grow as fast but people are like “this is the Dremo we want.” “Rap no dey pay for this country if you no get money to lose,” he says. He talks about how the competitive nature of the industry keeps him on his toes more and makes him innovate his music.

Towards the end of the interview, Dremo says something interesting. “I wasn’t signed directly to Davido,” he says. As someone who we’ve always known as a DMW artist that was a shocker. He says it was APG that brought Dremo, so it was an APG/DMW thing. He mentions that he has an EP coming later this year. Dremo says if he could change anything about the music industry he’d change “the prices of things.
