End of Season Review: Best Forward

Posted on

Timi Iwayemi: Eden Hazard (CHELSEA) – The best forward this season was the best player this season and that the electric Belgian Eden Hazard. Hazard was the man to watch all season. He terrorised defences, created chance after chance and most importantly was consistent.  He didn’t miss a game this season and was on top his opponents in almost every match. He scored 14 goals and provided 9 assists for his team-mates and created a whopping 100 chances(league high) from his inside-left position for the champions. Eden has already gone on to claim the Professional Footballers’ Association player of the year, players’ player of the year and the Football Writer’s Association Player of the Year.

Oluwamayowa Idowu: Sergio Aguero won the Golden Boot for a reason. He also played less games than a certain Englishman who was ultimately benefiting from the lack of familiarity and purple patch that comes during a rookie year.

Michael Famoroti:  Diego Costa grabbed the league by the scruff of the neck and Kun Aguero looked to be the deadliest man in the country but a spot must be reserved for the man who will remember this season more than anyone else – (Sir) Harry Kane. It was a delight watching the unfancied striker terrorizing defences once he was given the opportunity in the league and his contribution in the 5-3 victory over Chelsea probably chastened Mourinho and his boys more than a little bit. The British media has hastily built him up and all eyes will be on him at the U21 Championships. Yet no matter how his career pans out now, he will always have 2014/2015. That year, he lived the dream.

Somto Mbah: Sergio Aguero has arguably been the best striker in the Premier League since he joined Manchester City, and the only other striker who has come close is Luis Suarez.

So, I consider it as blasphemy that he has never made any PFA team. Manchester City were always off the step without him this season, and Pellegrini would tell you he was the main reason the Citizens didn’t mount as much of a challenge towards the league title as they would have liked this season.

Nevertheless, he snatched his much overdue Golden boot with 26 goals this season becoming Manchester City’s all-time top goalscorer in the process. This is the first time in PL history that the outright golden boot winner does not make the PFA team of the year. Questions will be asked about how that came about but there is no question that Kun is the best striker in England.

Dami Etomi: Sergio Aguero. The one bright spark in an incredibly disappointing season for Man City. The champions crumbled in February and were unable to provide competition to Chelsea in the latter stages of the season. The one constant however, was Sergio Aguero. Aguero led the league with 26 goals in 33 games (30 starts). He has recently pledged his long term future to Man City but it won’t surprise me if the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich begin to enquire about his services. A joy to watch, and a natural born goal scorer.
