What surprises me is that anyone could have expected Darren Wilson would be indicted and potentially criminally prosecuted for the shooting of Mike Brown.

Because, race aside, I think that there were certain more fundamental issues at play there.

– An indictment for Darren Wilson would’ve been akin to a finding of some sort of fault on the part of the police and in turn, the state. The floodgates that that would’ve opened would have been immense. Just bad precedent: frankly, not worth the risk. And that is not to say racial profiling isn’t an evil.

– Prosecuting police officers for exercising some discretion, whilst doing their job is a huge disincentive. So, the fewer police officers do their jobs properly, the more crime and breakdown in law and order. I thought it was that simple. And, taking race out of the equation, would you blame an otherwise reasonable man for acting unreasonably in a confrontational circumstance where he purportedly feared for his life?
