Explainer: Another Private Jet Crash-lands In Ibadan

A private aircraft carrying around ten high-profile Nigerians on Friday overshot the runway at the Ibadan airport in Oyo State’s capital.

Cause Of The Accident

According to reports, the crash happened at around 11 am on Friday at Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport. The jet, bearing the registration N580KR, veered off the runway and ended up in an adjacent bush area.  There were no casualties from the accident.

Reactions

Responding swiftly, firefighters and emergency response teams from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) rushed to the site. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries reported.

Carol Adekotujo, a representative for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), confirmed to Channels TV that“the jet arrived from Abuja and landed safely but went beyond the runway. Thankfully, everyone on board remained unharmed.”

This incident follows another recent one at the same airport. In November 2023, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, had a narrow escape when his aircraft crash-landed. There has been an uptick in aviation incidents lately, which some attribute to the recent dismissal and replacement of leaders within the aviation sector.
