Fireboy Reaffirms Hitmaking Status with New Single ‘Playboy’

Award-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter, Fireboy DML is back with a brand new single titled Playboy. The highly anticipated song was produced by Bizzouch and serves as Fireboy’s first release since he dropped Peru last year.

Admired for his impressive songwriting skills and soulful voice, the hit-maker has cemented himself in the industry as an innovative, young artist pushing the boundaries of Afropop, giving his music a distinct feel and sound: Afrobeats with more soul and lyricism.

Playboy begins in the familiar way many popular Afrobeats songs do: calling for the attention of a fine woman, while simultaneously praising her body and himself.

“Girl don’t flex with the boy, your body is a mad ting
She wanna roll with the man dem…  Girl you wanna play with a big playboy like me”

Coupled with an infectious hook and vocals reminiscent of early-career Wande Coal, Playboy is an upbeat tune with cheeky lyrics similar to those found in Peru; perfect for loudspeakers and rooms full of people who just want to vibe. The song is just over three minutes long but will likely be on repeat for many listeners because, as he has proven time and time again, Fireboy does not miss when it comes to vibe delivery and replay value. In his own words from the catchy chorus of the song, “when I drop you know it’s an anthem”The flow of the verses further illustrates the young artist’s ability to string tunes to his taste and work to his strengths with a view to showing off his creative prowess.

Given the quality of this title track, it is safe to say that Fireboy definitely has a lot in store for us in his upcoming studio album set to be released later this year.
