The Foreigner's God first teaser trailer

We are inching closer to the release of Ifan Michael’s highly anticipated The Foreigner’s God. The director, producer, and production designer just dropped the first official teaser for the supernatural period drama on his Instagram page.

The film is set in 1947’s Enugu. It is a supernatural tale that follows English photographer, Pepper Claude, who visits the Igbo land in a search of a story. The story unravels when his bodyguard disappears mysteriously and he falls in a love with one of the accused, Anya. He is convinced she is innocent and that tribal discrimination is at play, so he commits to freeing her and her people until a chain of unforeseen events sends his world spiraling out of control.

Period pieces are scarce in Nollywood, but this year Nigerian filmmakers are spoiling us. 1929, released earlier this year, explored the 1929 Women War in Ikot Abasi. Imoh Umoren’s The Herbert Macaulay Affair, coming out this September, is a portrait of the life of Nigerian Nationalist, Herbert Macaulay, and Badamasi: Portrait of a General is focused on the life of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.

Ifan’s The Foreigner’s God is a more ambitious project than the other two. It is a blockbuster period drama starring Nollywood veterans such as Nkem Owoh, Pete Edochie, Sam Dede, and Eucharia Anunobi alongside contemporary stars, Toyin Abraham, Ini Dinma-Okojie, Frank Donga, and Toni Tones. Its supernatural angle makes it even more appealing as supernaturalism, which was quite popular in the early days of Nollywood, is almost absent today.

There is no official release date at the moment, but a 2019 release seems imminent.
