The entire world is dealing with COVID-19 right now. In most instances, there have been lockdown and stay-at-home orders announced by governments while borders have also been shut to contain the spread of the virus. In Lagos, there has been a lockdown instituted over the past week and it is scheduled to continue until the end of this week with some suggestions it may be extended. While the virus has stopped everyone from living life as normal, preventing people from going to work and moving freely, time has continued to move on and yesterday, Funke Akindele threw a small party for her husband JJC’s birthday. The gathering hosted the likes of Naira Marley, Babatunde Gbadamosi and Eniola Badmus and obviously, in the world we live in, a video of it made its way to social media.

Throughout the day, social media has been awash with conversations about Akindele flouting the policies and the need for more accountability. This prompted Funke Akindele who has a place as an ambassador for the Nigerian Center for Disease Control and has been vocal of recent on the importance of social distancing, to make a video apologizing.

Later today, the Lagos State Police Command announced the arrest of the actress for hosting a house party in contravention of the lockdown order in Lagos.

The policemen were reported to have arrived in Amen Estate off Lekki-Epe Expressway in about three patrol vehicles, before whisking Akindele to Panti.

Bala Elkana, a police spokesman has suggested that other celebrities at the event should report to Panti, saying “Investigation is ongoing, efforts are intensified to arrest the remaining persons in the video, among whom are Azeez Fashola a.k.a Naira Marley and Abdul Rasheed Bello a.k.a. JJC Skillz. They are in their best interests urged to report at the State CID Yaba on Monday 6th April, 2020 or risk being declared wanted.”
