Ghanaian-Nigerian Songstress Adomaa Releases Alluring New Single, “Circus”

Posted on

Following the release of her first single of the year In The Clouds which enjoyed a phenomenal response, singer and songwriter Joy Onyinyechukwu Adomaa Serwaa Adjeman, known as Adomaa professionally, has premiered her latest release titled Circus. Adomaa fell on hard times after getting lost in the clouds of sudden fame; completely unprepared for how lonely and difficult things would become. And when you lose touch with reality, life can suddenly turn into an incomprehensible and frightening circus.

The new single Circus accompanies a lyric video which features Adomaa with beautiful braids styled into bantu knots; as under her eyes are smeared with what seems to be paint conveying her distress. Circus is even more poised, decorating Adomaa’s characteristic voice with carnivalesque instrumentation and downtempo jazz groans – it’s her light touch that’s most impressive.

Commenting on her new single and upcoming EP, Adomaa says that she’s no longer trying to make mainstream music or hit records. She acknowledges that she has never been a mainstream artist and isn’t trying to be one. “Boys and Girls and everyone else, welcome to the Circus! My spiraling journey continues and my long awaited EP signifying my return to music, Becoming Adomaa, is out next month – November 9th. The EP is my time to essentially shine, this time I do it on my terms, my way. No more trying to do everything under the sun to make another hit.” she says.

Adomaa continues by saying “I’m not a mainstream artist, I never was. I’m Jazz, I’m Soul, I’m Blues, I’m R&B, I’m Gospel, all mixed with my African elements and sonic influences. I’m Adomaa. It’s time to make the music I should’ve been making from the very start.” Meandering between gossamer pop, jazz, highlife and folk, Adomaa is a special artist who brings so many elements to a genre that has already seen immense popularity throughout the years. Her cinematic music is set to become a household name worldwide as she pursues her desire to personally touch people’s lives through her music, and create a unique blend of vintage and Afrocentric culture through her various modes of expression of self, and art.
