Hennessy Cypher 2022 : A Showcase of Hip-Hop and Rap Artistry in Nigeria

The eight season of the Hennessy VS Class ended with PDSTRN emerging as the champion of the Class about 5 months ago and now the Hennessy Cypher is back! The 2022 edition of the Hennessy Cypher features a collaboration of VS Class Alumni; PDSTRN, BarelyAnyHook, Matosan, and Preacher  Kingz-  all versatile rap talents bringing with them  an interesting twist.

The 2022 Cypher is a six minute showcase of owned rap style and brilliant word play which has garnered over 150k views since its release. The verses serve as a repository of memorable and relatable bars like: ‘Heavy is the head that wears the crown, but mine’s a perfect fit’, ‘Drowning in a gutter, hoping the water will flow’, ‘Hold your horses, the game is in stable’ and ‘Dropping all of my verses down in italic’; reminiscent of Jay-Z’s ‘write my curses in cursive’ in Otis.

This showmanship continues Hennessy’s tradition of heralding upcoming musical talents, and punctuates their commitment to hip hop and urban culture. 

The Hennessy Cypher has become an annual congress of emerging and established rappers, extemporaneously making great tracks together on a single beat and now one of the most anticipated annual releases for hip hop and rap fans. The Hennessy Cyphers which have now featured over 60 Nigerian Rappers since its kick off is undeniable evidence of Hennessy’s influence and support of rap and hip hop in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
