Did you know that more than half the world lives on less than $2 a day? In spite of all of the luxuries and amazing things that exist in the world today, poverty is still everywhere. Whether you’re affected or know somebody who is or not, it’s an important issue that you should speak up on. Here’s an idea of how you can become more of an activist in the fight against poverty:
Put A Focus On Women And Girls
While all sexes can be victims of poverty, the majority of the 1.2 billion around the world who live in absolute poverty are women and girls. They are denied basic human rights. These women and girls have limited access to health care, to education, and the opportunity to earn a living. They have no say in decisions that will affect their future.
It even helps to think about the sheer amount of women who can not afford sanitary products. This is both a feminist issue and a poverty issue.
Donate
Donating to worthy causes whenever you can will make a bigger difference than you think.
Causes like Feeding America, LIFT, and Oxfam are all great causes, but there are many more out there that you can consider.
Speak Up
Use your platform and your voice to educate others about poverty and similar issues. Share informative posts and let people know why it is important. Infographics like the one below can illustrate how poverty rates are falling, but we still have work to do!
