Hybridbwoy Aims For The Heart On Six-Track EP ‘6ix’

Earlier this year, Hybridbwoy collaborated with Bizzonthetrack on a five-track dense rhythm fest titled Hxb that spoke to the former’s readiness for mainstream immersion. He sealed the deal when he followed the release with a strong Prettyboy D-O collaboration which also served as the lead single for the six-track EP, titled 6ix, a tuneful but sturdy ode to his come up.

In line with its title, 6ix comprises only six songs including, Bad Ting featuring Blaqbonez, the earlier released Prettyboy D-O assisted Rewind, and Your Love with Minz. All these features suggest Hybridbwoy holds no aversion to sharing the spotlight with contemporaries. He’s also not constrained to themes, a standout feature uncommon with debuts although, he holds a strong preference for love, tracks like Matter, More, and Your love are proof of this.

Despite the myriad of features, each one, steeped in individuality, complements the project. On Bad Ting, Blaqbonez brings his A-Game, showcasing his flow and signature cheekiness with lines like “love is better with a rich nigga”. KLY also delivers precisely on More another song with a strong love theme. Prettyboy D-O and Minz round up the EP with Rewind and Your love respectively with the latter possessing the potential for commercial success with its infectious chorus delivered in Minz’s mesmeric inflections.

The year in experimental Afropop brought brilliant returns especially from artists in the new school and with a concise debut like 6ix, Hybridbwoy’s inclusion is the category is guaranteed.
