Jeffrey Benson Is Daring On Sophomore Project ‘Some Love & More’

Based in Canada, Jeffrey Benson (JB) has steadily made strides as an Afro-fusion artist, singer, and songwriter. After falling in love with music as a young boy, he started writing songs and freestyling at 15. In 2013, he decided to focus on music professionally by writing for other artists. Five years later, he released his first single Away fresh out of university. Inspired by Afrobeats artists like Fela Kuti, Burna boy, Ajebutter, BOJ and BlackMagic, he put out his debut EP Sorry Dad I Make Music in 2020. He brilliantly decided to promote his music by using some of his songs as the soundtrack for the video clips of old Nollywood movies. This strategy helped him find an audience online.

Now, JB is back with his second project Some Love & More. The 10-track Afro-Fusion project is a sonically pleasing body of work with brilliant lyricism, flow and instrumentation. Unlike his first EP; a response to the disappointment and criticism he faced from his dad, this sophomore project is focused solely on him. “I was inspired to work on this because It’s a reflection of my life currently. The realization that a lot of things are beyond what meets the eye. Love included,” he explains.

The 2021 project starts with Some Love & More which sets the Soulful/R&B tone for the rest of the album. Sunrise, the third track has all the positive affirmation you could ever want. He gets daring as he continues making the album telling us, “After track 5 my alter ego kicked in!”

On the inspiration for the project, he says, “I listened to Fela, Michael Bolton, Marvin Gaye, Labaja, Wiz, Burna, Drake and J Hus during recording breaks.” Jeffrey Benson is no longer the young man bothered with his dad’s concerns you hear in his first EP. He is growing, daring, focused on himself and Some Love & More is proof.
