Nigerian singer and songwriter Joeboy is building momentum for his forthcoming album with the release of his latest single, Taxi Driver, which dropped on Friday, March 7, 2025. Known for his soulful sound and relatable lyrics, Joeboy once again strikes an emotional chord, offering fans a glimpse into his new project’s reflections.
Released under his label Young Legend in partnership with Warner Music Africa, Taxi Driver follows the earlier single SMH, an emotive, Indian-influenced track produced by longtime collaborator Tempoe. While SMH captivated listeners with its melancholic tone and intricate production, Taxi Driver shifts the focus inward, digging into the emotional complexities of love and longing.
The track opens with a heartfelt plea: “Taxi Driver can you take me home/ Hate this feeling/ I’m better on my own.” These lyrics capture the raw vulnerability of a relationship weighed down by confusion and heartbreak. Joeboy’s signature blend of Afrobeats rhythms and introspective storytelling transforms Taxi Driver into more than just a love song—it becomes an anthem for anyone who has wrestled with the push and pull of romantic uncertainty.
Joeboy’s ability to merge catchy melodies with deeply personal themes has long been a hallmark of his artistry. Since his breakout moment with Baby, Joeboy has continued to soar, earning a reputation as one of Africa’s most exciting young talents.
At 27, Joeboy has already achieved remarkable milestones. With over 2 billion streams across major platforms and chart-topping hits in more than 20 countries, his impact on the global Afropop scene is undeniable. His discography includes fan-favorites like Alcohol, Nobody, Beginning, and the remix of Love Nwantiti alongside CKay and Kuami Eugene.
Beyond his chart success, Joeboy has proven himself as both an artist and a forward-thinking entrepreneur. Dubbed the Young Legend, he’s carved out a space where creativity meets business acumen, pushing the boundaries of what it means to be an African artist on the world stage.
Taxi Driver sets the tone for what fans can expect from his upcoming album—a project that promises to be a bold fusion of heartfelt storytelling and genre-bending sounds.
Joeboy’s next chapter is here, and Taxi Driver is just the beginning.
