Joeboy’s “Only God Can Save Me” Sets The Stage For His Forthcoming EP

Nigerian Afro-pop and R&B artist and songwriter Joeboy has released Only God Can Save Me, a single off of his forthcoming EP, Body, Soul & Spirit.

The new single drops 5 months after his acclaimed sophomore album, Body & Soul, which helped him break past three billion total streams. The 15-track album featured some fan favorites, including Contour, TikTok-famous Sip (Alcohol), and Duffel bag. The new EP, which is scheduled for release on November 17, is expected to take a darker, more reflective and melancholic turn than we’ve heard from Joeboy before.

Only God Can Save Me is Joeboy’s medium of introspection, and acknowledging the fair-weathered nature of human support systems and friendships. The lyrics convey his raw, unfiltered reservations and questions  about conditional love and trust, baring his emotions through the entire song.

The track was produced by Debo, whose catchy, smooth base allows  Joeboy’s vocals to shine. As a teaser, Only God Can Save Me amplifies the anticipation for the album.

“The song came from a place of realization over a strange two-week period that had me questioning everything and everyone,” Joeboy said about the new single. “I discovered a lot of negative things going on around me, and I started seeing people around me for who they truly were. I needed certain people to be there for me, but they disappeared on me, I truly felt alone, and it became obvious to me that human beings are not reliable, and most people are only there for you on the condition that they can gain something from you. I came to the realization that you are really and truly alone on this earth, and God is the only source of strength and succor. All we can do is cast all our worries on God, and he will handle it, hence the title ‘Only God Can Save Me’.”
