Jorda Rae Shoves Karma Aside on “Sidelines”

While we are often reminded of the religious philosophy that forgiveness is a virtue, Jorda Rae has a contrary thought which she instills in her newly released single Sidelines. As far as the artiste is concerned on this hit, revenge is nonnegotiable, so she considers getting back at a male lover for their short-lived relationship. With this third official release, Jorda Rae makes a clear statement about her consistency as she continues combining deep lyricism with influences of Afropop and RnB.

Born and bred in Lagos, Jorda Rae grew up influenced by different sounds. In 2022, she released her first two singles, Into You and 24/7, marking her professional entry into mainstream Afrobeats. Despite being a university student, she is making out time to pursue her musical career as she balances this with her Mass Communications programme.

Music is, to 20-year-old Jorda Rae, a means to express oneself in limitless ways without genre or stylistic constraint. With this philosophy in mind, the young artiste is unhindered in her quest to breach conventions as she moves seamlessly between RnB, Afropop and neo-Soul. Her confidence is derived from her abundance of creative energy as well as her sheer willpower to keep propelling her craft.

Produced by 9tyeight beats and out since March 15, 2023, Sidelines is powered by sultry guitar sounds and gentle drums with the artiste’s patronising vocals. Notwithstanding how sexy she sounds over the lush beats, Jorda Rae is not in any way romantically subdued as she croons, “Anything you do, I’mma do it back. I’m not gon’ wait up for karma, I’m not gon’ watch from the sidelines”. No doubt, Jorda Rae samples the idea of girl power in this hit and appeals to a global audience in a  world that is increasingly attuned to an equitable balance in social rules for all gender kinds.
