On the back of the release of his well-received surprise EP, Happy Place, London based Ghanaian Producer, Juls, known for his continent-wide affiliations and willful references to his Ghanaian culture, circles back to his sound rich home country once again for Mmayewa. Mmayewa, Twi for girls, is a fusion of the country’s signature highlife sound with twists typical of an experimental producer like Juls.
Collaborating with Ground Up Chale Records heavyweights including Twitch 4 Eva and Quamina MP, Mmayewa is a celebration of life despite hard times. Coupled with Twitch’s smooth vocals and Quamina MPs witty lyrics, the single also serves as a perfect resurgence of Highlife music.
On his choice of Twitch and Quamina to power this resurgence, Juls explained that they are currently the front runners for new artists from Ghana carrying the torch. And, on his inspiration, Juls indicated that Mmayewa was influenced by tons of hall party videos watched.
