Letters To Buhari: Osivue Itseumah

Dear Mr. President,

You have won our hearts with the glistening mantle of righteousness and sincerity you brought aboard your campaign. Your zeal and persistence have been contagious enough to amass support nationwide, regardless of the infamous ethnic disparity. You, alongside your running mate, Vice President Osinbajo have sworn to rid this country of the leeches, who have slowed down her development, and I, personally have been behind you every step of the way.

However, you would know better than me that every leader faces opposition, both in and out of the confines of the office, which they uphold. 100 days in the office of the Commander-in-Chief, and your opposition have crafted criticisms in several ways; from social media outcries, to lawsuits on appointments made. With technology becoming more ubiquitous and the fifth estate becoming more involved in the activities of the government, it is pertinent to understand that your public relations team has to stand strong, and ensure that these criticisms are handled appropriately.

I pay no attention to any remarks considering major achievements of your office thus far, as you would not expect a baby to walk but three days after it is born. The argument is simply premature. However, I will hold you account to some campaign promises. In January, after the ‘Walk for Change Nigeria’, which Vice President Osinbajo attended in Osun state, he proudly announced that if your administration were to be elected, it would provide 20,000 jobs in each state of the federation, amounting to 720,000 jobs. Although no deadline was given, I would assume that 100 days would be enough to bring that promise to life, what have you to say to this?

Dear Mr. President, we do not expect the Naira to go up against the Euro in two months, nor do we expect a fully functional transportation system within the flicker of an eye. We expect transparency, accountability and truth, and that is what the people of Nigeria will continue to hold you to.

Sincerely,

Osivue Itseumah
