Apple Music has announced Lojay, the Nigerian artiste whose real name is Lekan Osifeso Junior, as the latest artiste in its Africa Rising Artist development programme.

The bimonthly programme began in 2020 and is geared towards “identifying, showcasing and elevating rising African talent.”

“Thank you Apple Music for putting a spotlight on my sound. It’s a huge honour I don’t take for granted especially with all the amazing artists the continent has on display. It’s amazing to see how far my music is able to travel and how well it’s been received,” said Lojay in response to the news.

We have compiled a list of some of the artiste’s songs.

Monalisa ft. Sarz

This is a single off his collaborative EP with the Nigerian record producer Sarz and which upon its release became a party favourite. Upon its release in July 2021, the song held the third highest position on Apple Music Charts in July 2021.

Hopping on the Amapiano wave that was trendy at the time, Lojay song is a romantic plea to the eponymous Monalisa.

Monalisa remix ft. Lojay and Chris Brown

Following the success of the original song, Lojay follows it with a remix, this time inviting the American singer Chris Brown, who is no stranger to Nigerian artistes, having previously featured in songs by Wizkid and Davido, among others.

Leader

Released last September, Leader was Lojay’s first record of 2022. It is also the first track of his forthcoming third EP, Gangster Romance. Produced by P.Priime, the song has Lojay singing about taking back control from a domineering lover.

Canada ft. DJ Maphorisa and Kabza de Small

Released last November, Canada features South African Amapiano heavyweights Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa. It follows his debut single of the year, Leader.

MOTO

Released only days ago, MOTO is the third single in Lojay’s forthcoming EP. Producing the song are Lojay and The Elements.

Future project

On March 3, the singer will release Gangster Romance, a new extended play comprising seven tracks. The EP will feature Tanasha Donna, DJ Maphorisa, and Kabza De Small.

Come March, the singer will also be touring Australia.
