The Macallan celebrated its bicentennial with an unveiling of Tales of The Macallan Volume II at Harbour Point, Victoria Island. The two-day event, held on September 26 and 27, brought together Nigeria’s cultural elite to witness a milestone in whisky craftsmanship.
The centerpiece of the evening, Tales of The Macallan Volume II, stands as a reminder of the brand’s pioneering spirit. This rare 1949 single malt, presented in a Lalique crystal decanter, pays homage to founder Alexander Reid through an artistic almanac featuring illustrations by British artist Andrew Davidson. At 44.8% ABV, this masterpiece is a symphony of flavors—from forest fruits and antique oak to dark chocolate orange and sweet woodsmoke—crafted by lead whisky maker Euan Kennedy.
The event was unlike typical product launches. Nigerian poet Wana Udobang delivered a spoken word performance, while Chef Benedict’s whisky-infused culinary creations demonstrated the versatile spirit of The Macallan. Brand Ambassadors Daniel Atteh and Adeyinka Adepetun guided guests through an intimate tasting experience, unraveling the narrative behind each sip.
“This exceptional whisky is a true celebration of The Macallan’s rich heritage, craftsmanship, and legacy,” said Hammed Adebiyi, Senior Brand Manager of Edrington Portfolio, Nigeria. “It offers a unique and unforgettable experience that reflects the artistry behind each bottle. We are confident that our whisky connoisseurs in Nigeria will deeply appreciate the complexity and masterful fusion of flavors that define this rare single malt. We look forward to sharing this extraordinary journey with them.”
The launch marks The Macallan’s fourth major unveiling in Nigeria this year, following The Reach, Classic Cut, and A Night on Earth collections. As The Macallan charts its course through its third century, the brand demonstrates a commitment not only to preserving its legacy but also to environmental stewardship, targeting net-zero emissions across global operations by 2045.
A balance of tradition and forward-thinking was perfectly encapsulated in an evening where Scottish whisky heritage found its home in the heart of Lagos, proving that great spirits, like great stories, know no borders.
