Maleek Berry. This is more than a household name in the Nigerian music industry. It is the name of the guy who has been instrumental in churning out innumerable and memorable hits, beats and club bangers. Unfortunately, we are not here to toot his horn or praise him for being the melting pot for sounds that can simply be regarded as – smooth.
Rather, we are here because the British-born Maleek Okunola Shoyebi has performed on a platform only a handful can boast of. This platform being the TedxPeckham, London. In the video which was posted on the 1st of August on YouTube, the nervous yet articulate Maleek is seen recounting his success story from his birth in London, shipment to Nigeria, return to London at age 6 and constant growth there to the producer, singer and song-writer he is today.
Hate his music, discredit his oratory or marginalize his stance in the Nigerian music scene, what you cannot do is deny the fact that Maleek dropped major life hacks and self development tips during his speech. “Vision is more important than sight” being one of many.
Lets stop yapping. Take the class yourself. Watch.
