Not many A listers can boast of having a year as successful and revealing as Naira Marleys’; a UK based budding artiste who went from controlling the soundwaves of the streets of Peckham to Lagos to cheering on the Super Eagles and the entirety of our country at the just concluded FIFA World Cup Games. Like a pensive Dice throw, Naira took a leap and it landed him in international planes. Feeding off the awareness that arose from his world renowned hit single; Issa Goal, he followed it with another hit; Japa which not only made rounds as a sonic hit but powered the vocabulary of the streets by becoming a frequently used slang.
This week, after a brief hiatus taken from the scene, he shares the video for Japa. In found footage style, Marley mirrors the groovy narrative of the song in the highly dramatic and comedic video which sees him play the role of a fugitive on the run from British authorities; depicting everything Nigerians are known for in foreign countries; especially the United Kingdom.
