Nigerian-American Filmmaker Chinonye Chukwu to direct the first two episodes of HBO’s ‘Americanah’ series

Fresh off her critically acclaimed drama and Sundance Grand Jury prizewinner Clemency, Chinonye Chukwu is set to helm the first two episodes of HBO’s series adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie’s bestselling novel Americanah. An excited Chukwu responds to the news in a tweet, “Naija no dey carry last.”

The limited series, which will be 10-episode long, stars Uzo Aduba, Zackery Momoh, Corey Hawkins and Lupita Nyong’o, who is also executive-producing alongside fellow Black Panther star, Dania Gurira.

Americanah follows Ifemulu, a confident Nigerian woman, who leaves the country for the West and must grapple with being a black woman for the first time in her life. The limited series will premiere on AT&T’s WarnerMedia Entertainment response to the budding streaming wars, HBO Max.
