You’ve heard about many Nigerian podcasts and podcasters; you love some of them while you despise or are indifferent about others. While it’s taken podcasts a while to break into the Nigerian entertainment and content consumption scene, podcasting is not an entirely novel phenomenon. Even though we weren’t aware of the fact, many talk shows we watched on TV and YouTube could have easily passed as podcasts too. As new podcasts continue to spring up and the Nigerian audience adjusts to accept and welcome the style of content, there are companies and early investors driving the growth of some of these podcasts: they’re known as podcast networks.
A podcast network is like a music label. They invest in a new podcast show and host, help them get off their feet and attract an audience and sponsors, with the hopes of recouping their early investment when the show becomes profitable (which is dependent on a number of factors). The same way a label scouts for artists to invest in and develop is the same way podcast networks scout for new shows to develop and invest in.
Sometimes a creator who has a viable idea for a show approaches a podcast network, which has the ability to distribute and promote on a large scale, to partner with them to bring the show to life.
There aren’t a lot of podcast networks in Nigeria, that’s why in this article we’re spotlighting these Nigerian podcast networks and the amazing content they create and sponsor.
Describing themselves as the home of urban African entertainment and culture, Madeaux Africa Network is a content and podcast network.
