Niniola’s ascent has largely been based on her offering an infusion of house elements in afrobeat music and over the past 18 months, she has released music that thrust her into the upper echelon of conversations about house music. Spending time in South Africa this year has therefore been very important particularly in terms of influences and inspiration for Niniola’s sound even if we’re yet to get the results. With her Magun Remix featuring Busiswa, Niniola does it right considering her identity as an act who releases music many of her Nigerian counterparts probably cannot offer sound contributions to.
The record is proof of two artists who have settled down together and thought of a direction to go in as they alternate between Yoruba and Xhosa unleashing just the type of remix Magun deserves.
