Budding Nigerian singer-songwriter, Nissi, has released her second EP, Unboxed, three years after her first project, Ignite. The much-anticipated EP serves as Nissi’s canvas, where she paints and showcases her artistic prowess through authentic storytelling and her rich vocal dexterity. Unboxed features the work of an array of creative geniuses, including Teni, Kiyagi, Jay Weathers, and Killertunes, among others, exploring diverse elements and fusing different influences into the project.
From the first track through the 7th, the EP steers listeners through a realistic portrayal of artistry and craft as Nissi starts off by delivering an ode to her day-ones in the heartfelt track Heavy, produced by Grammy-award-winning producer Telz.
In the third track, Overthinking, Nissi narrates her experience coping with incessant thoughts and finding healing from within. “Hope for the best to happen, but prepare for the worst. Can never have all the answers”, she conveys, connecting with her audience through a commonly shared life experience. However, in the very next track and the official teaser of the EP, Nobody, Fireboy, and Nissi transport the listeners through a catchy, melodic love song, reminding them of the beauty of true love and selflessness.
The final track, Gloves, is about the complexity of the human experience, highlighting the variety of emotions and experiences people have throughout their lives. It serves as a creative ending to the explorative EP, whose major theme is celebrating Nissi’s versatility as an artist.
