Olamide and Asake Make A YBNL Power Move on “New Religion”

While fans count down to the release of their separate albums—with both the top dog of the YBNL pack and his high-flying Amapiano-fuelled signee set to roll out Unruly on July 12 and Work of Art on June 15 respectively—Olamide and Asake have made a power move with the release of the single, New Religion.

Produced by Bbanks and Magicsticks, and directed by Jude Ajala, the music video has wonderful visuals as the artistes blend effortlessly and take turns to deliver catchy verses. Highlights of the video include some featured artwork and the natural, serene environment, with the artistes seated at some point over a chess board, simulating a viral picture of football legends Ronaldo and Messi.

With this single, Olamide reaffirms his status as a legendary Nigerian rapper and one of the greatest in the African hip-hop game, while Asake positions himself as a uniquely emergent force in the modern revolution of Afrobeats. The Mr Money With The Vibe connoisseur has enjoyed a blissful ride, particularly in 2022 when his Amapiano-styled, Fuji-tilted sonic output was ubiquitous. Given his recent duet with Olamide and the highly symbolic cover photo, he occupies a pivotal space in the minds of people, strategically spurring them towards a GOAT-ship discourse.

Out on June 1, New Religion is available across streaming platforms.
