One Dance is 1/4 of what Wizkid-Drake have in store!

When Drake tweeted the album art to One Dance featuring Wizkid, the whole of Nigerian Twitter erupted because it served as Nigeria being put on the map yet again.

When the track was released, there were mixed emotions about the track. Some felt Wizkid was only on the song for background vocals but that’s not so important considering Wizkid and Drake recorded 4 songs together according to South African producer, DJ Maphorisa who co-produced the track.

Maphorisa claims One Dance was recorded in a week and serves as only one of four songs recorded by the duo. Maphorisa then went on to tout Wizkid, saying “He’s making other artists be aware of other sounds, to be out of the box, not to do the same thing all the way. Also for him, he’s challenged ’cause now he’s not in a comfortable space that he can just do what he’s supposed to do. Be different and come up with new things.”

The Wizkid-DJ Maphorisa relationship can be traced back to the making of In My Bed, off, Wizkid’s sophomore album, Ayo. The relationship has developed from there with Maphorisa producing Wizkid’s 2015 song titled Soweto Baby. Wizkid has also introduced Maphorisa to world renowned acts like Chris Brown and Jermaine Dupri as well as become a part of the Starboy production team which already boasts producers like Sarz, Legendury Beats and Maleek Berry.

Maphorisa excitedly claimed “just to be a part of Views From The 6 makes me excited. I did something for my country. Wow.”  Nigeria isn’t the only country that got put on by One Dance. Shoutout Wiz and Maphorisa!
