PodCreators Africa Launches To Help Build Podcast Ecosystem

As podcasting continues to find a wider audience across Africa, a new initiative is looking beyond individual shows to the systems and communities that help creators sustain them.

PodCreators Africa, launched by podcast media company Oikia Production, is designed to connect podcast creators while providing access to education, practical resources and a community around the business and craft of podcasting.

The initiative comes with a focus on one of the less visible challenges facing podcasters: building the structures needed to keep a show going. For creators, producing a podcast involves much more than recording episodes. Planning, production workflows, audience development and the day-to-day management of a show can all determine whether a podcast remains sustainable over time.

PodCreators Africa’s first programme will address that practical side of podcasting. On September 16, the initiative will host a virtual workshop, Building Systems for a Successful Podcast, led by Jeremiah Oiko, Head of Podcast and Partnerships at Eggcorn Digital.

The workshop is aimed at both new and existing podcasters, with a focus on systems and workflows that can make producing and managing a show more organised, efficient and sustainable.

For Oikia Production, the programme is part of a wider effort to strengthen the ecosystem around African podcast creators, rather than simply producing individual shows.

The company also works in podcast marketing and original media. Its projects include Podcasts Curated with Taste, a newsletter focused on noteworthy podcasts and the people shaping the wider podcast industry.

With PodCreators Africa, Oikia Production is positioning community and knowledge-sharing as an important part of the next phase of podcasting on the continent: giving creators not only a platform to publish, but also the tools and connections to build podcasts that can last.

The Building Systems for a Successful Podcast workshop takes place virtually on September 16.
