Ahead of the 21st FIFA World Cup which opens in Russia roughly a month from now, NIKE, revealed that it had received over three million orders for the Nigeria kit according to the Nigerian Football Federation. NIKE also revealed that the jerseys shall be available for sale worldwide on the 29th of May, at a cost of $85.

Speaking at a meeting between the NFF and Nike officials in Amsterdam, the topic of a renewed contract was high on the agenda. Initially signed three years ago, there are suggestions that it is time to scale up the value of the contract following the relative success of the various Nigerian teams in recent history.

In the three years of NIKE’s initial sponsorship agreement with the NFF, the U17 National Team (Golden Eaglets) have won a fifth FIFA U17 World Cup; the U23 National Team (Olympic Eagles) have won bronze at the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament; the Senior Women National Team (Super Falcons) have won an eighth Women Africa Cup of Nations; the Super Eagles B have achieved a record runner-up position at the African Nations Championship and; the Super Eagles have qualified for the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup (Nigeria’s sixth appearance) from a so-called ‘Group of Death’ in the African series.

While the retail price for the home kit was mentioned, it is uncertain whether all other merchandise shall also be available for sale and how much it’ll go for.

Watch out for more details.
