Remains of Missing General found in well

The remains of Major-General Idris Alkali have been discovered in an abandoned well in a mining village, Guchwet in Shen of Jos South LGA of Plateau, the army announced on Wednesday.

Alkali had been missing since September 3, 2018, while going to Bauchi from Abuja en route Jos.

His sudden disappeared led to the army conducting investigation which led to a series of gory discovery.

The 3rd Armoured Division, Nigerian Army confirmed that the missing Major General, who was a former Chief of Administration at Army headquarters, was killed in the Dura-Du community in Jos by an irate mob made up of youths and other persons who are well known.

According to the Army, the youths were protesting the killing of 11 members of the community who had been attacked by unknown gun men at a shopping complex located at Lafande village of Dura-Du in Jos South area on September 2, 2018.

Alkali had unfortunately run into the protesting irate youths who seized him, after he had identified himself to them, and proceeded to murder him.

After killing him, the youths drove his Toyota Corolla car into the Dura-Du pit.

While announcing the discovery of his body, the leader of the search and rescue operation, Brigadier General Umar Mohammed, told reporters that a parade will be held for the retired officer as an honour.

He also revealed that there will be a befitting burial for the former Chief of Administration, Nigerian Army headquarters.
