Rukmani, an emerging voice in the Indie Afro-Soul scene, has a story as moving as her music. Born and raised in Port Harcourt, she found solace in singing at just six years old, drawing inspiration from the church choir. Growing up in challenging circumstances, music became her refuge, a way to process emotions and navigate life’s difficulties. Now based in Lagos, Rukmani channels her journey into art, crafting songs that are deeply personal and relatable.
With an EP and multiple singles under her belt, she releases her first single of the year, From Softie to You (Dey There). This record frames love as a daily choice rather than a fleeting emotion. The song is about showing up for others in the ways that matter most. With metaphors like “Let me water you from my sweat” and the recurring vow “I go dey there,” it is a blueprint for enduring relationships in an age of disposable connections. Rukmani describes love as more than an emotion, it’s an action, a decision, and sometimes, a quiet rebellion against indifference.
From Softie to You (Dey There) reminds us that true connection comes from choosing to be there, again and again, with sincerity and grace.
