Senate asks Buhari to explain Benue killings

The Senate has asked President Muhamadu Buhari to address the joint sitting of the two chambers of the National Assembly on the lingering security challenges in the country amidst the continued killings in Benue.

This followed a motion sponsored by Senator George Akume representing Benue North East senatorial district. There have been increasing reports of killings, arson and invasion of homes and even religious centres in the last few days in Benue state.

Akuma had  in his lead debate said despite interventions by the Senate and the deployment of police and soldiers in the affected areas of the state, human lives and property are still being unmercifully wasted.

The lawmakers thereafter condemned the incessant killings of Nigerians and then resolved that it was necessary for the president to explain the reasons whY the killings have not been nipped in the bud, despite many interventions of the government.
