Dino Melaye Essentially Bounces From APC to PDP

The past few years of Nigeria’s fourth republic have been marked by the defection of politicians from one party to another. Almost anyone you can think of who’s a career politician in Nigeria has made that move. After a couple of weeks in the limelight more for drama and movie-related plots, Kogi State Senator, Dino Melaye made a return to the Senate today and then in Dino fashion sort of made it clear he has now moved over to PDP’s side.

Senator Melaye said:

Because of the trauma I went through and I’m still going through, I want to seek your indulgence that you will call on the Sergeant-at-arms to look for a comfortable seat for me on this side of the divide (pointing to the opposition wing) because I am no longer comfortable sitting here. So, I want to ask the Senate President that you mandate the sergeant-at-arms tomorrow to look for a seat for me on this other divide of the chamber.

Before you do that today, through the help of my walking stick I will take a comfortable seat close to Papa, General Senator David Mark pending when you get me a comfortable seat on this side.

While he did not state categorically state that he is no longer an APC member, one can read between the lines and see Dino may have figured out a way to walk into the fray of the opposition.

Dino’s words were obviously met with heavy hearts by some like Senate leader Ahmed Lawan and Chief Whip Olusola Adeyeye
