Award-winning Afropop star Simi is back with her first release of the year, a new single titled Stranger. The single follows the release of her 2022 album, To Be Honest, a critically acclaimed body of work that features Adekunle Gold, Fave, and Simi’s daughter, Deja. Although Stranger is her first track of 2023, Simi has celebrated milestones this year, accumulating over one billion global streams, and an announcement that she’ll be joining Grammy Award-winning superstar Alicia Keys on her ‘Keys To The Summer’ North American tour in July.
On her new single, Simi creates a gripping ballad written, composed, and engineered by herself with production by Louddaa (who has worked with Ayra Starr, CKay, and Amaarae). Stranger boasts of Simi’s captivating vocals and heartfelt songwriting elevated with exquisite piano arrangements, and a beautiful string selection.
Speaking on the single, Simi explains “The power of love renders you powerless, and may the heavens help you, if you’re powerless for someone undeserving. Is it love when it transforms you so strongly, you find you’re becoming different from the person you always thought you were – the person you thought you were capable of being. Is it love? The song is about love that changes you for the worst”.
