“Skinny Girl in Transit” Returns After 3-Year Hiatus

Since its emergence in 2015, NdaniTv’s Skinny Girl in Transit has amassed a large fan base due to its humorous nature and treatment of societal issues like gender roles, weight, and the pressure of marriage on women.  The renowned comedy series is returning for its 7th season after a hiatus period of three years.

It centers Tiwalade Awosika (Abimbola Craig), a young woman in her late 20s living in Lagos with her family, including a mother who desperately wants her to get married. In her quest to lose weight and find love, Tiwa meets an array of Lagos men who fashion creative ways of disappointing her. This goes on till she meets Olumide Macaulay (Ayoola Ayolola), her boss, with whom she enters into a relationship. Despite Mide’s family’s disapproval, their love story blossoms.

SGIT also accommodates smaller plots like the love stories of Didi, who is Tiwa’s best friend and colleague, Tiwa’s sister, Shalewa, and Derin, Mide’s sister. Wedding bells eventually ring between Tiwa and Mide and we see the difficulties of wedding planning and a miscarriage take its toll on the couple.

The new season picks up from where we left off with Tiwa and Mide’s bundle of joy. The trailer begins with screams of celebration as the two families welcome their newest addition at Tiwa’s baby dedication. This season looks to highlight Tiwa’s challenges as a new mother, and how she balances it alongside her career. Are her new responsibilities going to bring her closer to Mide, or will they draw the couple apart? Will Shalewa, who ended her abusive relationship with Kwame, resolve things with Muhammed (Timini Egbuson)? We already see the love birds, in an endearing moment. Could there be another Awosika marriage in the pipeline?

After receiving a beautiful proposal last season, fans speculate Didi (Bisola Aiyeola) finally becoming a wife. Will her love life finally become stable? We hope that SGIT continues to explore her friendship with Tiwa. The two women have evolved from gossiping co-workers to valuable friends who have stuck by each other through thick and thin.

Director Bunmi Ajakaiye returns to Skinny Girl in Transit with the original cast of Abimbola Craig, Ayoola Ayolola, Ngozi Nwosu, Sharon Ooja, Timini Egbuson, and Woli Arole. The new season will have 10 episodes and show exclusively on NdaniTv’s YouTube page from January 26.
