Sony Music West Africa joined forces with The Beat 99.9FM to host The Beat Brunch, a star-studded event celebrating the impact of Beat FM on Africa’s music and cultural landscape since its launch in 2008.
Held at the upscale Wings Complex on Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria Island, the brunch gathered industry leaders, media personalities, and celebrities to honor the station’s 15-year journey. The Beat FM, which has grown into a cultural cornerstone in Lagos, has been instrumental in shaping Africa’s entertainment scene. Deji Awokoya, General Manager of The Beat 99.9FM, reflected on this milestone: “Fifteen years of delivering top-tier entertainment, news, and music has solidified our place in the heart of Lagos culture. This celebration is for our loyal listeners, our talented team, and the creative community that has made this journey possible. We look forward to further innovating and deepening our community connections.”
The brunch brought together notable figures like CKay, Falz, Ajebutter, Kemuel, Skales, Groovy Mono, Kriz Beatz, Deena Adé, and LIAHM, among others, showcasing the strong ties Beat FM has nurtured within the entertainment industry. Many of the station’s alumni, including TaymiB, Toolz, Douglas Jekan, and Osi Suave, were also in attendance, celebrating the station’s legacy of talent development.
Entertainment highlights included energetic performances by Ayo Maff, who lit up the stage with his hits Dealer and Are You There, and Morravey, who teased her new track IFENEME. Oxlade delivered a standout set, performing tracks from his upcoming album Oxlade From Africa, including Ifa and collaborations with Sarkodie on unreleased tracks Ofa and Ololufe. His chart-topping hit Ku lo sa was a fan favorite, sending the crowd into a frenzy. DJ sets from DJ Obi, DJ NTY, and DJ DayZee kept the energy high throughout the event, while the food and drinks ensured guests were indulged.
