SuperJazzClub Prioritize Sonic Uniqueness in “Paradise”

Ghanaian musical group SuperJazzClub released a new single Paradise on May 3, 2023. Created in 2018 in Accra, Ghana, the group brings together seven creatives who are artistes, producers, DJs and filmmakers. Its members are BiQo, Øbed, Seyyoh, Tano Jackson, Joeyturks, Ansah Live and Anthony Orleans-Lindsay.

Although SuperJazzClub is forged from the fiery state of West Africa’s monolithic music branded as Afrobeats, the group appears to be hellbent on pushing the boundaries to create artistic forms in their homeland and abroad. Their first single, Couple Black Kids, was released in 2019 and found an appropriate audience. Following the initial success, the group dropped Bordeaux in July, 2020. In September of the same year, the collective’s For All The Good Times EP was released. Between 2021 and 2022, there were other singles from the group, the most notable ones being Cameras and MAD

Paradise is the second single in the group’s anticipated EP ACT 3. This follows the single Too Early which earned the support of Dotty at Apple Music, Nick Bright and Remi Burgz at BBC IXtra and Rinse FM France. In Paradise, the overriding sounds inspire meditation and the delivery is philosophical. It is a melody that refuses to unnecessarily romanticize and idealize the existence of humanity as it elevates the mind above false notions of happiness and bliss.

Reacting to the new song, Ansah Live of SuperJazzClub said:

“The concept of an overpriced paradise is one that almost every human is familiar with. There is always a price to be paid for the things that we enjoy the most. Sometimes we pay more than we actually should but the satisfaction that we derive from our individual paradises could be so strong it overshadows the price we pay”.

Paradise is available on music streaming platforms. Sample it here.
