Since his starry debut in 2012, Tekno has powered his fame and fortune by way of hit singles and affiliations afforded by his talent. His announcement of the release of his debut album a few months ago came as a surprise to many whose knowledge of him is founded on singles like Pana. It’s been eight years since his debut but the singer just found his footing in terms of projects and Old Romance, his just-released fourteen-track love-centered album is his first of many.
Contrary to expectations, the album is not a personal piece lined with stories that allude to his journey so far as one would expect from a long-awaited debut, rather it’s an accumulation of every subject important to him ones that have molded him into the singer he is today, top of which is love in its many forms.
The Killertunes produced Sku Sku, rife with sprightly percussions and captivating metaphors, paves the way for a slew of rhythmic imitators in sound and story. Save for the new onslaught of philia love on songs like Family Issues and Neighbour, Old Romance is strictly love-centered, banking on the versatility of Tekno as an artist.
Most importantly, just like he has in the past, Tekno holds the forte on Old Romance, his refusal to share the spotlight with his contemporaries, speaks to the resilience that has driven him to push and succeed in an industry saturated with like-minds.
