Afrobeats superstar, Tems has been announced as the winner of the Outstanding International Song category at the NAACP Image Awards. The win is in recognition of her sterling record on the Black Panther Soundtrack album, No Woman No Cry.
Also, in the award’s Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration (Contemporary) category, Wizkid alongside Chris Brown clinched the category for their work in their single Call Me Everyday. The awards ceremony would be premiered live on Saturday, the 25th of February, 2023.
The NAACP Image Awards is an annual awards ceremony organized by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The awards is organised to honor outstanding performances in film, television, theatre, music, and literature, and the categories of the Image Awards are voted on by the award organization’s members to determine stellar contributions in creative fields within the purview of the Awards.
The win is Tems’ second win in a row, amidst other nominated songs in the category including Diana, a collaboration between Nigerian singer Fireboy DML, American singer Chris Brown and Jamaican singer Shenseea; Bad to Me by Wizkid; Last Last by Burna Boy, and Stand Strong by Davido and Sunday Service Choir.
The winning record of the artiste is a Bob Marley cover produced by Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson (Adele, Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake), and it has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales Chart, and at No. 7 on the US Afrobeats Songs Chart
