A terrorist group has killed no fewer than ten people in a violent attack on security operatives patrolling an area around Giro Masa community, Shanga Local Government Area, on March 25, 2026. Up to nine soldiers and one policeman have been confirmed dead in a still-rising death count.
This latest ambush occurred when a joint force of the Nigerian army and the Nigerian Police Force was on patrol duty based on a “distress call” they had received. Unfortunately, hell broke loose in what appeared to be a carefully planned ambush orchestrated by the insurgents who sprang up on the security men.
Responding to this harrowing incident, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, who visited the site of the attack and the hospital where some of the victims are receiving treatment, bemoaned the “barbaric attack.” “It is tragic that they lost their lives in such circumstances,” he grieved.
According to him, the men were carrying out their duty when they were killed by terrorists, whom army sources suspect to be the Lakurawa militant group. He explained that the men were heading to a community where they suspected the terrorist group would attack, but the information they received turned out to be false, and they were ambushed in the process. According to the governor, about eleven of them have been confirmed dead, but as of press time, the count has risen to thirteen.
The governor promised that the state would take care of the hospital bills of the victims and also “ensure that the families of the deceased are supported.” He went on to assure the state and observers that his administration is ceaselessly and collaboratively working to quell the rising spate of attacks and secure the state.
