At this year’s edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) 2026, conversations around African storytelling extended beyond the red carpet. Between the flashes, fashion moments, and celebrations of screen excellence, The Singleton brought a quieter, more intentional presence, rooted in pause, reflection, and the power of meaningful stories.
Known globally for its smooth, rich profile and commitment to quality, patience, and character, the Singleton has consistently positioned itself around savouring moments rather than rushing through them. Its philosophy of slow craftsmanship mirrors the essence of strong storytelling: creating work that linger
This year, that ethos came to life through The Singleton’s sponsorship of the Best Documentary category. Since its inception in 2013, the AMVCA has celebrated African film and television excellence, broadcasting across more than 50 countries and honouring over 400 winners to date. It remains one of the continent’s most recognised stages for creative talent. The partnership felt especially timely in an era where documentaries continue to shape cultural memory, challenge perspectives, and preserve untold African narratives.
While blockbuster films often dominate mainstream conversations, documentaries hold a distinct power. They archive truth, amplify overlooked voices, and invite audiences to sit with real experiences, histories, and emotions. By aligning with the category, The Singleton reinforced storytelling as cultural preservation, not just entertainment. The sponsorship also reflected a broader shift within African entertainment. Across the continent, filmmakers are increasingly using documentary formats to explore identity, heritage, music, politics, migration, and everyday life. Supporting this category signalled an understanding that some of the most enduring stories are grounded in authenticity and lived experience.
Beyond the awards stage, The Singleton created another thoughtful touchpoint at the AMVCAs through The Singleton Escape Pod, a space designed for guests to briefly step away from the intensity of the night. In an environment defined by movement, cameras, and constant social interaction, the Escape Pod did exactly what it promised: it offered a pause. Guests stepped in to breathe, reset between appearances and gather themselves before returning to the spotlight. Some shared quiet conversations, others simply enjoyed a slower moment away from the noise.
Rather than competing for the loudest activation of the night, the brand leaned into emotional resonance. The Escape Pod acknowledged something often overlooked at large cultural events: meaningful moments are sometimes found in stillness, not spectacle. At a time when culture moves quickly, and attention spans are stretched thin, The Singleton’s AMVCA presence offered something different: an invitation to slow down long enough to fully experience the moment.
