Things Fall Apart: Court sacks Youth Council President and others

Posted on

The Federal High Court in Abuja has today, sacked the President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Mr.  Ugochinyere Ikenga and 22 other officers barely one month since they were elected into office.

The presiding judge, Justice Valentine Ashi, in his ruling over the weekend, annulled the congress and the election that produced the sacked executives on August 6th.  Justice Ashi also barred the NYCN President, Ikenga and the 22 others from parading themselves as officers of the youth body. He removed them from office on the ground that the constitution of the NYCN was grossly violated by defendants in the court action that challenged the election.

Delivering judgment in a suit instituted by the Incorporated Trustees of the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) to challenge the NYCN congress, it was held that  “This decision has been made in consideration of the brazen breach of the NYCN constitution on election matters.”

According to This Day, more information regarding the sacking is to follow.
