Tiwa Savage Reiterates Her Intimate Affair With ‘Love’ on Sugarcane EP

Posted on

With what must be out of her deep experiences with love-lost and love-found, first lady of Mavin Records, Tiwa Savage drops an EP titled Sugar Cane. With less than a week after its release, the EP has received recognition and accolades from far and near. It’s seen a shout out from the official Coldplay page, as well as Chris Martin’s Coldplay seen dancing to Ma Lo ft Wizkid, the EP has also risen to the top of Apple Music and iTunes charts in this time.

The songs on the EP have a recurring theme of love. We have reviewed the project below.

SUGARCANE

Sugarcane is a bouncy dance-track that enjoys the soft feathery delivery signature to Tiwa and Tiwa alone. I enjoyed a moment of hilarity when I thought she said “… bobo wey make me dey swallow” only to rewind and hear her say “… bobo wey dey make me smile o”. Asides this brief moment I enjoyes, sugarcane, surely is an electric way to begin a project.

GET IT NOW

Sugarcane and Get It Now have a homogenous African infused sound to them. If you are a sucker for organised and combined sounds, then this song is tailor made just for you. It might just be me, but I feel a Major Lazer inspiration on this one.

ME AND YOU

Immediately this song begins, you can predict who is responsible for the beats. I am not entirely sure if this is a point of concern (for the producer), or not, but it is worth pointing out. At this point in the project, it almost feels as though the vigor experienced in the first two tracks begins to dwindle. There really is not much to be said here, aside its good beats and great vocals.

HOLD ME DOWN

Hold Me Down just proves how much of a sucker for love Tiwa Savage is. She sparks fires with a story centered around the first time you met that special someone, and just makes you fall in love all over again.

ALL OVER

This song is a song that by now, we all know and love, and it needs no review. Go to an Owambe this Saturday and witness the magic of this song.

MA LO

Chronologically, Ma LO is the last song on this project and it has the highest listens on soundcloud, with the closest being a good 1,000 listens behind. Accept it or not, this is thanks to the Wizkid factor. Whether the song is worth the hype or listen is another issue entirely. As regards the recognitiong earlier stated, the likes of DJ Cuppy and Chris Martins have been seen vibing to this tune. In my opinion, is just average.
