Two failed bomb blasts which would have sent Gombe into New Year despair.

New year’s eve saw an attempt on the army barracks lead to the death of two suicide bombers and on New Year’s day another suicide bomber died at ECWA Church III behind Gombe State University.

On New Year’s eve two suicide bombers tried to smuggle their way into the Mammy Market at the Army barracks but were asked to be frisked by soldiers. They resisted and were turned back by the soldiers on guard. The explosives strapped on their bodies went off, immediately killing the two suicide bombers and injuring those within the vicinity including the soldiers who turned them back.

It is believed that at the church the suicide bomber arrived on a motorcycle only to find that the road had been barricaded. The bomber who was asked to alight for normal checking refused and then tried to break through the barricade when the explosive blew up and killed the suicide bomber instantly. The blast also injured some Boys Brigade members.

The Boys Brigade and Military must be commended for the security they provided and succeeding in ensuring no bomb blast took the lives of civilians.
