Umu Obiligbo Blends Highlife With Afrobeats In “Legacy”

Since their move to Lagos from the Southeast, the music band, Umu Obiligbo has consistently pursued their goal of becoming a music powerhouse, by blending Highlife with the more popular Afrobeats, with Igbo lyrics often given to storytelling.

They have now released their third album, Legacy, where they collaborate with Nigeria’s Bracket and Beepee, and Ghana’s Bisa Kdei. In the album, Umu Obiligbo maintains their authenticity and street credibility in every track, infusing them with storytelling and proverbial wisdom.

A varied cast of producers have worked on the album, including Aku Wealth, Dr Ozor, Mathew, Niyi P, Deeyaso, Boom Beats, Banana boy, C Major, and Doktor Sett. Jay Stuntz worked on the sound engineering, while the trio of Fiokee, Jerry, and Best played the guitars.

Legacy comes nine years after the release of Ife Di Mma, the band’s debut album. It was followed in 2018 by Signature (Ife Chukwu Kwulu), which features artists such as  Zoro, Victor AD, and Bube.

Born Obiligbo Ebuka (Akunwafor) and Obiligbo Ifeanyi (Okpuozor), from Anambra State, the duo broke into the music industry with their hit single Culture, before establishing their record label, Umu Obiligbo Global.
