This comes right after the announcement of her role as Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm in upcoming series, MrsAmerica. Also starring in the flick is Anthony Anderson of ABC’s hit series, Black–ish.

Following the trailer for the new flick, Aduba plays the overprotective mother of an agoraphobic musical prodigy(Khalil Everage) who forms an unlikely friendship with his school security guard and former music manager(Anthony Anderson). The mutual love of music that bonds sends them on a path of new discovery as well as helping each other push past their demons.

Directed by Chris Robinson, Beats is slated to be the ultimate ode to the city of Chicago’s hip-hop scene and will feature original music from Young Chop(credited for working with Ty Dolla $ign, Big Sean, Kanye West, Gucci Mane) as well as a number of Chicago-based upcoming producers and artists alike. Beats will premier on the 19th of June, 2019 on Netflix
