From Prettyboy D-O’s Mentally to I Swear by DRB, WANI has thrived despite a lack of solo releases by way of features that cast him in the light of a salvager. It’s been nearly eleven months since his last solo release, No Love/Fast Life, and today, he begins a new chapter in his career with 2020 debut, All My Ladies, an ode to a special set of fans who have been unrelenting in their love for him during his hiatus, women.
Produced by Adey, All My Ladies is a heady mid-tempo flawlessly articulated in Wani’s inviting bari-tenor vocals that take listeners on a journey through musical history. You’ll hear a sample of Ryan Bowser’s infamous “Ahh” on Dilemma complementing keys from Remedies’ Shako Mo, as well as Diana King’s Shy Guy opener “oh lord have mercy mercy mercy”.
Currently working on the second installation of his acclaimed debut EP, Lagos City Vice, All My Ladies is not only an appraisal of WANI’s fanbase but also a daring precursor of what else he has stored in his bag of charms and, a warning that you’re going to want to get hip to his grooves sooner rather than later. The instruction is clear:
“if you got love show me don’t wait till when I get on“
